With a steam train already in Goathland railway station this train came through and stopped at the platform whilst I was standing on the overhead footbridge. And we enjoyed a steam train ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Goathland (Aidensfield) in Heartbeat country. It could be done as a “half walk” by walking one way only to Grosmont and catching a steam train back (or the other way round). At the time it was the early 60s and we had travelled on train to Scarborough, and then on to Goathland. The booklet includes a route map and lots of information about the long disused railway that the walk follows.
